Insurance and Out-of-Network Benefits

Why We Do Not Take Insurance:

At Nova Cesta Counseling we have made the conscious decision to provide our services outside of the the world of insurance. There are many reasons for this decision, but ultimately it is because we believe that we can provide better, more flexible help to those in need. Specific reasons for not taking insurance are:

  • Insurance companies force us to share your personal therapy related information such as diagnosis, treatment plans, and progress.

  • Insurance companies can deny us the freedom to choose the direction and duration of your treatment, meaning that the direction of your treatment becomes directed by them and not by what we decide is most important for you.

  • The reimbursement process is time consuming and costly for therapists, and our reimbursement rates are often much lower than what actually allows us to make a living and run a practice. It forces therapists to take on unhealthy numbers of clients, which ultimately means that we would not be the personal touch, high quality practice that we strive to be. You deserve to be a healthy and balanced individual and so does your therapist!

Help With Out-of-Network Reimbursement:

You are welcome to seek out-of-network reimbursement from your insurance company. This is something you can do on your own with the receipts we provide you.

If you want less work for yourself, there are companies like Mentaya to help clients use their out-of-network benefits to save money on therapy for a small fee. Some people feel that the fee is worth the help simplifying the reimbursement process.

Network Deficiency Exception Request:

There is a way to possibly seek an out-of-network exception through your insurance provider that would allow you to receive a larger reimbursement. It is not guaranteed, but it is often worth a try, especially if you are seeking very specialized services and are having difficulty finding an in-network provider who can appropriately meet your needs. Ask your therapist for more information.
